Have You Met the Head of Our New Division?

Meet Seth Paul, the head of our new division, WGB Medicare Insurance Services.

We at WGB Benefits Insurance Services are already involved in the Medicare field, but we intend to expand our role there. With that in mind, today we’re interviewing Seth Paul, the head of our new division, WGB Medicare Insurance Services, so our employees and clients can get to know him.

Seth is a lifelong Orange County resident who lives in Anaheim Hills with his two young daughters. When he’s not working, he’s usually either tinkering with his self-described “terrible golf game” or spending time with his kids. He’s been in the Medicare industry for 15 years, and the story of how he got his start is an interesting one.

He started out as a writing broker, and on his first appointment—a preset, in-home appointment in Leisure World—he happened to be arrested. That’s right—after the resident opened the door, two police officers came up behind him, ordered him to get on the ground, and zip-tied his hands. As it turned out, the police were conducting a sting operation at that time to catch door-to-door scam artists, and he happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

After selling Medicare Advantage and Medicare supplement plans for a few years, he was given the opportunity to head his own department to boost sales for all the brokers contracted with the company. In this new role, he was one of the first people to work with new medical groups in exclusive capacities. As one of the largest medical groups in California, they were able to pen an exclusive deal in all 12 of their Southern California facilities where he could plug brokers into those facilities to be the on-site Medicare resource agent.

When he took over the position, they were averaging about 1,500 sales per year—within four years, they were averaging 20,000. This increase led to a slew of sales awards, and he credits it all to thinking outside the box and looking for different ways to acquire opportunities for the brokers. He’s been named the Top Sales Executive for five of the past seven years, and he’s written an article for California Broker Magazine about how to get a competitive edge in a Medicare marketplace.
